LANSING, MI (WTVB) – There are now over 10,000 cases of COVID-19 in the State of Michigan according to figures released Thursday afternoon by the Department of Health and Human Services, with five of the cases in Branch County.
The Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency also reported there has been a second death from Hillsdale County. Agency officials say the individual was an adult male with several underlying health conditions.
As for neighboring counties, 31 positive cases have been reported in Calhoun County, 26 cases with two death in Hillsdale County and there have been eight cases so far in Saint Joseph County.
There has been a 50 percent increase in positive cases in the C.H.A. district from Wednesday. Medical Director Doctor Lauren Vogel says they need everyone to be vigilant with Stay Home, Stay Safe so that they can begin to see the number of cases slow.
The DHHS reported Thursday there were 1,457 new cases and 80 new deaths. That brings the total number of cases reported since March tenth to 10,791 with 417 deaths.
As of 1:00 pm on Wednesday afternoon, there have been 29,324 tests conducted for COVID-19 with 22,054 tests coming back negative.
