SILVER LAKE (WTVB) – A log cabin belonging to John and Kathy Hemker on Silver Lake sustained heavy damage in a Tuesday afternoon fire.
The blaze in the two story structure at 991 Artistree Trail, which is north of Stokes Road and just a few hundred feet west of I-69, was reported at 2:17 p.m..
Firefighters from Lakeland and Fremont, Indiana were hampered by strong winds out of the west that were gusting between 25 and 35 miles an hour.
The fire was called under control at 3:36 p.m. and crews remained on the scene until about 6:00 p.m..
No injuries were reported. Life Care Ambulance were called in to stand by.
Lakeland Fire Chief David Smith says the cause of the fire and how it got started are still under investigation.
A dollar figure on the damage has not been totaled up yet.
