Surrounded by the love and comfort of her family, Margaret Lois Hopkins, 67, of Coldwater, passed away at her home Friday, October 30, 2026.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2026 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation in Union City. In accordance with Margaret’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
Margaret was born April 28, 1959 in Thousand Sticks, Kentucky, to the union of Robert and Maudie (Couch) Woods. She attended Tekonsha Community Schools and Kellogg Community College.
Margaret was just 14 when she met the love of her life, Michael “Hop” Hopkins. Their bond grew through their school years, and June 4, 1977 they began their married life together. Through 49 years of marriage and a remarkable 53 years together, their enduring love and devotion were an inspiration to all who knew them.
They welcomed two children, daughter Jaime (Scott) Omo and son Joshua (Leah) Hopkins, and built a life filled with family, friends, love, laughter, and countless memories.
Margaret was a hardworking and dedicated woman. Before beginning her career with the United States Postal Service, she spent several years working at Tekonsha Engineering alongside her sisters. She went on to build a successful 23-year career with the USPS before retiring in 2021. For many years, her friendly face and beautiful smile greeted those who came into the post office.
For Margaret, time with family and friends was time treasured. Her love for her children and grandchildren was unwavering, and she spoke of them with immense pride and affection. For her grandsons, Brady Omo and Ryan Omo, her home was the “fun house” where they always loved to hang out. She welcomed everyone who stopped by, making them feel right at home. Life at the lake brought her great joy, from boat rides and stunning views from her back porch to tending to her beloved landscaping rocks.
A dedicated University of Michigan fan, she and Mike hosted many memorable gameday gatherings, proudly sporting maize and blue. For Margaret, the game was always more about the company than the score. She loved nothing more than bringing people together, hosting gameday celebrations filled with laughter, good food, and Michigan pride.
She also enjoyed shopping, BINGO, reading, and bowling, spending several years bowling on leagues with Mike.
Above all else, Margaret’s greatest joy was the time she spent with those she loved, and the memories she created with family and friends will be treasured forever.
Margaret will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her husband, Michael “Hop” Hopkins; her daughter, Jaime (Scott) Omo of Coldwater; and her son, Joshua (Leah) Hopkins of Coldwater. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Brady Omo of Virginia and Ryan Omo of Quincy; her siblings, Sandy (Aaron) Hetrick of Ohio and Jackson Woods of Michigan. She is also remembered by her sisters-in-law Susan (Bob) Capman of Marshall, Judy Couch of Kentucky, and Brenda Woods of Michigan; her former sister-in-law Becky Diller of Coldwater; her special aunt Bertha Gay of Kentucky; and her many nieces and nephews. Her best friends, Judy Broxholm of Jackson and Keith (Lugene) Broxholm of Jackson, whose lifelong friendship she treasured, will also cherish her memory.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Maudie Woods, her brother Lester “Fat Daddy” Couch of Kentucky; her brother Robert Wayne “Wood”) Woods of Kentucky; and her sister Juanita Born of Coldwater. She was also preceded in death by her father-in-law, Lloyd Hopkins of Hastings; her mother-in-law Ethel (Don) Brewer of Marshall; and her lifelong best friend Alan Broxholm of Homer.
