COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The COVID-19 pandemic has now claimed the lives of eight prisoners at the Lakeland Correctional Facility in Coldwater.
The Michigan Department of Corrections reported on its website Monday night there have been a total of 21 prisoner deaths from the virus.
Five of the Lakeland deaths have been reported since last Wednesday. Out of 132 prisoners who have been tested at Lakeland, there were 112 positive tests while 20 tests came back negative.
A total of 15 Lakeland prisoners are reported to be in a step down unit as they previously tested positive for COVID-19 but have been medically cleared by the M.D.O.C.’s chief medical officer, are sympton free and are no longer considered contagious.
At last report, 28 staff members at Lakeland have tested positve for COVID-19
