COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The upgrading of the City of Coldwater’s fiber optic network continues to move forward.
The Coldwater Board of Public Utilities Board of Directors approved a request during an electronic meeting Thursday night to split the awarding of construction vendor bids three ways.
Western Telecom, NC Underground and B and M Ashmund will all work on Phase Two of the project. The cost is not to exceed an amount just over one-million-541 thousand dollars.
It was felt that splitting the awarding of the bids would expedite the project.
I.T. Director Pat Poole told the CBPU board the COVID-19 pandemic has not slowed down the work.
Aspen Wireless was hired in 2019 by the CBPU to upgrade the system’s 1990’s technology.
When the improvements are finished next year, it’s hoped the speed and capacity of the system will put it in the top five percent of such networks in the nation.
