COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – While hundreds are taking advantage of numerous free food distributions organized in the Branch County area during the coronavirus shutdown, still others are showing their generosity by giving back to the community.
After taking a week off to equip its volunteers with personal protection equipment, the Branch Area Food Pantry has reopened Tuesdays from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. for normal food box distribution. The Sonshine Pantry at the Union Church in Quincy is open on Wednesdays, with the Bronson Food Pantry at the Bronson Theatre open on Mondays, and the pantry at the Our Savior Lutheran Church in Union City open the third Wednesday of the month.
The South Central Food Bank’s fresh food distribution is also happening at seven sites around the county throughout the week, with fresh meals prepared daily at the Union Church in Quincy from 11:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
According to Branch Area Food Pantry manager Patti Daoud, there has been a steady stream of money donations to the pantry, including $600 from the Arab American League of Coldwater, which also donated 70 N-95 masks. Because volunteers at the pantry already had personal protection equipment, those masks were then donated to the ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital.
The Coldwater Area Ministerial Association will also hold a free food and household supplies drive-thru distribution in the parking of the Coach Eby Youth and Family Center Monday, April 27 from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.
