QUINCY TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – Two barns and a two story home were destroyed in a massive Thursday morning fire in northeast Branch County.
The blaze at 1275 Jonesville Road was reported just before 7:45 a.m..
All three buildings were on fire when the first fire crews arrived. Witnesses say they could see smoke from the fire from over a mile away.
The Quincy Fire Department was initially dispatched. They then requested mutual aid from the Coldwater Fire Department. Crews from Allen and Litchfield also battled the flames.
Quincy fire officials say although the roof burned off the house, crews were able to salvage and save many of the belongings and family heirlooms inside.
At one point, a 55 gallon drum of gasoline exploded. The fire is believed to have spread from a wood stove in the building where it broke out and quickly moved to the adjacent structures.
The cause of the fire was called accidental in nature. No injuries were reported. Crews were on the scene for just over three and a half hours.
Quincy Police, the Branch County Sheriff’s Department and Lifecare Ambulance also provided assistance.
Jonesville Road was shut down between Boone and Squires Roads until about 10:30 a.m..
