Richard Jay “Dick” Adams, 82, of Burlington Township, passed away at home on Monday, May 25, 2020.
A memorial mass will be held at a later date. Following cremation, interment will be at Burlington Township Cemetery. Public visitation will be held from 11:00 AM-7:00 PM on Friday, June 5, 2020 Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation in Union City, with a Rosary service at 7:00 PM. The number of people inside at any one time will be monitored by staff to abide by state restrictions.
Richard was born February 3, 1938 in Athens, MI to Lee and Florence (Jackson) Adams. He grew up in the Union City and resided there most of his life. Richard graduated in 1956 from Union City High School, where he was an athletic standout and was a member of the UCHS Athletic Hall of Fame Board. On October 24, 1959, he married the former Carol Cronkhite in Union City. She survives.
Richard worked for 22 years at Post Cereal in Battle Creek, retiring in 1997. He enjoyed playing fast pitch softball, recreation league basketball and was an avid golfer. He was a Little League baseball coach, a charter member of the Union City Athletic Boosters and never missed watching his children and grandchildren participate in their sporting events and other activities. Richard loved spending time with family and playing cards and Kismet. He had a nickname for everyone.
Additionally, Richard liked feeding and watching birds, and watching his favorite TV shows: Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, which he never missed. He also loved watching sports and was a Tiger Baseball fan. At one time, he owned a harness racing horse with his siblings, Edna and Bud. Richard attended Our Lady of Fatima Church in Union City and was involved in the Knights of Columbus.
Left to cherish fond memories of Richard are his wife of 60 years, Carol; his children, Dean (Rose) Adams, of Quincy, Jeff Adams of Kalamazoo and Missy (Mike) Irons of Athens; seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild; and his siblings, Donna (Dick) Fast of Union City, Dale Adams of Colorado, Dorothy Adams of Athens and Tom Adams of Union City.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Leonard Adams, Harold Adams, Edna Otis and James “Bud” Adams.
Memorial donations are suggested to Our Lady of Fatima Building Fund, the UCHS Hall of Fame or the Burlington Township Fire Department.
