COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Christine Delaney, executive director of the historic Tibbits Opera House in Coldwater, has been named one of the 2026 Michiganians of the Year by The Detroit News.
Delaney was selected for her exemplary leadership and tireless preservation efforts, which have allowed the 1882 theater to flourish as a cornerstone of the regional arts community.
Her award-winning oversight has guided the opera house through massive facade renovations, expanded artistic programming, and an impressive lineup of up to 250 performances a year.
The Michiganians of the Year awards, which are presented in partnership with the Detroit Regional Chamber, recognize individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to their communities and the state of Michigan.
Delaney’s ability to revitalize such a prominent local cultural hub while driving economic and artistic engagement in Branch County solidified her place among this year’s esteemed class of honorees, that also includes sportscaster Mike Tirico, U.S.A. men’s gold medal hockey player Conner Hellebuyck, Women’s hocky gold medalist Megan Keller.
Past honorees include Lions Coach Dan Campbell and Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
