BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB/WNWN) – The Calhoun County Public Health Department reported two more COVID-19 related deaths on Thursday which brought the county’s death toll since the outbreak began up to 29.
There has been a spike in deaths since Monday in Calhoun County as the department reported this week that four persons who previously tested positive for the virus have died.
There have been 444 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Calhoun County since the outbreak began. Of the 81 cases that required hospitalization, four are in Calhoun County medical care facilities as of Thursday.
Meanwhile, the Michigan Department of Corrections says the number of positive COVID-19 cases among staff members at the Lakeland Correctional Facility in Coldwater has gone up to 39.
Lakeland has had the most inmate deaths from the virus in the state with 23 but no deaths of prisoners who were originally housed at Lakeland have been reported since May 30.
