QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – A fatal fire which broke out Tuesday morning in a two story apartment building just west of downtown Quincy is not considered to be suspicious in nature.
The cause of the fire at 58 West Chicago which took the life of 39-year-old David Green remains under investigation by the Michigan State Police Fire Marshal Division and Coldwater Fire Marshall Steve Trall.
The fire was reported just after 3:20 a.m. as 911 dispatchers received multiple calls.
An auto-aid agreement which just went into effect on Monday quickly sent firefighters from Coldwater to the scene on the initial alarm.
Firefighters found heavy fire throughout the first-floor apartment with conditions blocking the second-floor egress.
59-year-old Robin Etheridge jumped from the porch roof prior to the arrival of firefighters and suffered a leg injury. She was later taken to Promedica Coldwater Regional Hospital.
A search led to the discovery of three people in a second-floor apartment who were quickly taken outside.
37-year-old Amanda Green and 45-year-old Joseph Price were both taken to Promedica Coldwater Regional Hospital for smoke inhalation.
David Green succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on scene.
Another search of the building found additional occupants in the basement who were not injured but several pets did not survive the fire.
Officials say the fire originated in a downstairs apartment and spread upstairs. All four of the fire victims were in an upstairs apartment.
