BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The latest report on Thursday from the United States Drought Monitor shows Branch County along with other border counties in southern Michigan are still in the abnormally dry category.
Those conditions also exists in Cass, St. Joseph, Hillsdale, Lenawee and Monroe Counties as well as in portions of Washtenaw and Jackson Counties.
Abnormally dry conditions are also being reported in the northern thumb and throughout northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio. Moderate drought conditions are reported in Henry County, Ohio.
The M.S.U. Extension Service weather station at the Bloom Dairy Farm has only recorded two days of rain since August 3 with 44-hundreths of an inch of rain on August 10 and two-hundredths of an inch this past Monday. A total of 1.69 inches of rain has been measured at that location for the entire month so far. Coldwater normally gets 4.13 inches of rain in August.
The National Weather Service says in Thursday’s forecast that there will be no rain at least through the middle of next week with highs eventually getting up to near 90 degrees.
