BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – Bronson Fire Chief Scott Wilber say the department will be in a professional video that will be released soon on social media platforms as a way to recruit new firefighters.
Rhino Media of Kalamazoo will be filming in Bronson this week as it produces two videos.
One will highlight the benefits of public service as a firefighter. The other will profile Bronson Deputy Chief Ken Stutzman who has served the department for 53 years and Firefighter Aaron Cutler who joined the staff a year ago.
The film crew will shadow firefighters as they perform exercises at the department’s Fatato Payne Training Center.
Rhino decided to make the videos after reviewing Wilber’s M.S. thesis from Eastern Michigan University which focused on the difficulties of recruiting volunteers and paid-on-call departments.
Based on his research, Wilber has proposed new recruitment approaches, such as stronger messaging about the benefits of serving and more use of social media. Wilber will present his research findings this September during a National Volunteer Fire Council webinar.
