BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – With the Labor Day weekend approaching, that means the summer of 2020 is winding down.
Branch County had a hot summer as there were 15 days between June 1 and August 31 when the temperature hit 90 degrees or higher.
That included scorching days of 94 degrees on July 9 and August 27.
July 9 was also the last day of a heat wave which saw the mercury get to 90 degrees or above for seven straight days.
June’s total amount of rainfall of 3.76 inches was slightly above normal. The July total was 3.18 inches which was below normal for Coldwater by just over an inch. It was even dryer in August with a total rainfall of 2.9 inches which was below the normal of 4.13 inches for the month.
The dry weather of recent weeks led the U.S. Drought Monitor to report last week that the southern part of Branch County was in a moderate drought while the northern part was abnormally dry.
