BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB/WNWN) – A preliminary hearing was held in Calhoun County District Court on Monday for a Coldwater man who is facing sex crime charges in connection with alleged 2007 incidents in Homer.
28-year-old Brad Allen Risner has been charged with two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct. The charges were filed by the Michigan Attorney Generals Office under the automatic waiver provision of the court rules which allow charges to be sworn in the adult court for the specified juvenile violation of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, due to Risner being 15 at the time of the alleged offense.
The alleged victim was also 15 at the time and the Battle Creek Enquirer reports she testified in front of Judge Paul Beardslee on Monday.
The judge adjorned the preliminary exam in order the get additional information from Special Assistant Attorney General Michelle Richardson.
At the time of the reported incident, Risner was a juvenile on probation after pleading guilty to a 2006 third-degree criminal sexual conduct charge in Calhoun County.
In addition, Risner is scheduled to go to trial on third-degree criminal sexual conduct charges in Kalamazoo County. Those charges stem from a sexual assault evidence kit that was collected in 2013, but never tested until 2016.
Risner is free after posting a $200,000 bond.
