HILLSDALE, MI (WTVB) – A man described as a parole absconder from the Michigan Department of Corrections was captured Tuesday morning in Hillsdale but he did not go quietly.
According to on line records, 43-year-old Jonah Roland Johnston absconded from parole on May 26.
Hillsdale Police and the Hillsdale Daily News reports Johnston was taken into custody but he somehow managed to steal a police car which he later crashed. Johnston then made a run for it with his handcuffs still on and hid in the home of a known associate.
Police from several agencies entered the home and took him into custody.
Johnston was lodged in the Hillsdale County Jail on the parole absconder charge as well as active warrants for possession of methamphetamine and manufacture of methamphetamine.
Hillsdale Police also arrested him for fleeing and eluding, unlawful driving away of a police vehicle, two counts of home invasion, three counts of resisting an officer and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
No bond was allowed. An arraignment was expected to take place on Wednesday.
