BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The latest report from the U.S. Drought Monitor which was released on Thursday shows there is still a portion of Branch County that is considered to be in a moderate drought but the area is not as large as last week.
The southwestern part of Branch County has moderate drought conditions this week while the rest of the county is considered abnormally dry.
Last week’s report showed the southern half of the county was in a moderate drought.
Southern St. Joseph and southeastern Cass County also have moderate drought conditions this week.
The dry conditions follow a hot and dry summer in which Branch County had 15 days of temperatures 90 degrees or above. Below normal rainfall was also reported in July and August.
The M.S.U. Extension Service weather station at the Bloom Dairy Fair west of Coldwater measured less than a half inch of rain from August 3 until last Saturday morning when an overnight downpour measuring over an inch of rain brought some much needed relief.
