COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – After a two week delay, the Coldwater High School boys varsity soccer team finally got its season underway Tuesday night with a 2-0 win at home over Kalamazoo Hackett Catholic Prep.
Mohamed Nasser assisted Angel Rodriguez on the first goal of the game, then scored himself in the second half, assisted by Brayden Boyd. Michael Orozco-Aburto earned the shutout in goal, making three saves. Coldwater outshot the Irish 17-3.
The Cardinals open Interstate 8 Conference play Thursday night at home against Harper Creek. The Coldwater JV team will host Parma Western Thursday.
Meanwhile, Quincy’s soccer match with Adrian Lenawee Christian that was scheduled for Tuesday was postponed until Wednesday. It will be played at Lenawee Christian’s home pitch due to a cross country meet being held at Quincy.

Coldwater cross-country runners tried again on Tuesday for their first win of the season, this time at Concord, but it was not to be. Concord runners won the boys meet with 28 points, Coldwater scored 41 and Potterville finished with 61. The Cards’ John Aerts lowered his time to 17:20 with his fourth place finish while his teammate Myron Lafty finished sixth.
Concord dominated the girl’s competition, scoring a near perfect 16 points, while Coldwater racked up 56 points and Potterville had 61. Senior Kyler Galena led the way for the Lady Cards with her seventh place finish.
