BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – In the first Interstate 8 cross-country jamboree of the season on Tuesday at Harper Creek, the host Beavers as expected, took first place honors in the boys meet by scoring just 26 points.
What was not expected was the performance of the Coldwater Cardinals. The Cardinals placed their top five runners among the first 18 finishers and scored a surprising 61 point runner-up finish.
John Aerts in 4th place and Myron Lafty in 6th place set the pace for the Cardinals. Jarron Herlan, Haroun Omar and Antonio Potter were 16th, 17th and 18th respectively.
Legend Szafranski set the pace for the Coldwater Lady Cardinals with her 16th place finish. As a team, the Lady Cards finished seventh.
