COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Two Adrian residents who were arrested Saturday for allegedly trying to smuggle drugs into the Lakeland Correctional Facility in Coldwater were arraigned Monday in Branch County District Court.
32-year-old Amber Duren and 20-year-old James Bellamy are both facing four charges.
They are each facing two counts of furnishing contraband to prisoners along with charges of conspiracy to furnish contraband to prisoners and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Duren’s 15-year-old daughter was also taken into custody Saturday. The youngster’s case will be handled by Family Court.
Duren’s bond was set at $25,000 while Bellamy’s bond was set at $20,000. Both can be released if they post ten percent.
Their probable cause hearings are set for October 1 with preliminary exams set for October 8.
The Department of Corrections uncovered a plot to smuggle drugs into the prison on Saturday.
They alerted the Michigan State Police in Marshall and requested assistance. Police from several agencies were involved in the investigation.
State Police say the investigation also revealed the involvement of several prisoners currently serving time at Lakeland and further charges will also be sought.
