COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency Health Officer Rebecca Burns told the Branch County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday that some of the Branch County COVID-19 cases in the past few days are related to school kids.
She spoke to Commissioners about an hour before Bronson Community Schools announced they were closing for the rest of the week after four Junior and Senior High School students tested positive for the virus.
Burns also mentioned the situation with the Coldwater Boys Soccer team after school officials got a report over the weekend of a player who reportedly tested positive for COVID-19. The varsity and junior varsity players and coaching staff had to self-quarantine until they could be tested.
Burns said she would have told Commissioners two weeks ago there was an increase in the county’s positive numbers after the state mandated testing for agricultural and migrant workers who in live close quarters and travel in buses together.
Burns added there are still far too many people not wearing a mask or not doing the things that she says would make a difference and she was afraid they will continue to see increasing coronavirus numbers.
In all, there have been 84 new Branch County cases reported during September which has brought the total number of cases since late March up to 528.
