READING, MI (WTVB) – The estate of Martin “Barney” Barnhart and his late wife Ruby was sold last Saturday by Spieth and Satow Auctions.
Barnhart was America’s oldest practicing auctioneer until he passed away in June of 2019 at the age of 98. Tuesday would have been his 100th birthday. Among the numerous items auctioned off were old tractors , walking sticks and an extensive collection of pig memorabilia.
There were so many items that two rings had to be used. Barnhart was inducted into the Michigan Auctioneers Association Hall of Fame in 2014. He had also earned the association’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
He was a familiar figure at the “Sale Barn” for decades auctioning everything from hay to livestock. Barnhart worked until a few weeks before his passing. In his heyday, he traveled throughout the Midwest conducting farm and estate auctions.
