LANSING, MI (WTVB) – The City of Bronson has been awarded a $1.3 million grant to assist with a much needed sewer project and the replacement of a water main.
58th District State Representative Eric Leutheuser made the announcement on Wednesday that the community development block grant was awarded through the Michigan Strategic Fund.
“This project will help make Bronson an even better place to live,” said Leutheuser. “Ultimately, infrastructure improvements protect public health and boost economic development – and that has a ripple effect benefiting families, taxpayers and the entire community.”
The grant will require a local match of just under $441,000.
Bronson was one of selected Michigan communities receiving support to upgrade existing public water, sewer and wastewater infrastructure systems.
City Manager Brandon Mersman said in a press release issued by the city on Wednesday that the grant will replace aging water main, sanitary sewer, and storm sewers on South Ruggles Street and a portion of Compton Street between Mowry and South Ruggles.
The project will also include the replacement of water service lines as well as road construction.
Mersman told the City Council in January that the storm and sanitary sewer issues on South Ruggles Street was identified as the most urgent infrastructure project in the city.
