COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater Community Schools Superintendent Terry Ann Whelan said in a letter sent to parents on Sunday that the district has had a total of 16 COVID-19 cases in the past week.
That included 12 students at Coldwater High School. In addition, there have been two students at Max Larsen Elementary School who tested positive and one each at Jefferson Elementary and at Legg Middle School.
According to CDC guidelines, the district is responsible for informing all students, teachers and staff who are considered “close contacts”.
The district is also taking several measures under the guidance of the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency including daily health checks, required facial coverings, social distancing, frequent hand washing and sanitizing as well as daily facility cleaning and disinfecting.
Whelan also stated in her letter that their desire to have students back additional days has to be weighed against keeping students and staff safe. She said they have been able to greatly minimize the number of students that they have had to quarantine because of a close contact due to reduced class sizes.
Whelan says the district’s Extended Continuity of Learning Plan will be updated monthly during their School Board of Education meetings, including this evening.
