Barbara D. Olds, 87, of Battle Creek, also of Coldwater, passed away at home on Monday, September 28, 2020, surrounded by her family, under the care of Oaklawn Hospice.
A funeral will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 2, 2020 at Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation in Union City with Oaklawn Hospice Chaplain Bill Cole officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Union City. Visitation will be held from 2:00-4:00 PM and 6:00-8:00 PM on Thursday, October 1, 2020, also at Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation.
Barbara was born on November 29, 1932 in Battle Creek, Michigan to Charles A. and Wanda L. (Butler) Stanton. She graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1951 and married Bruce Olds on May 19, 1956 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Battle Creek. After 20 years as a stay-at-home mom, Barbara enrolled at KCC in 1975. From there she went to WMU, graduating with a psychology degree in 1980. She received her Master of Social Work degree in 1982 and worked 13 years as a social worker at the VA Medical Center in Battle Creek. Barbara always said her seven years of college were among the most enjoyable and fulfilling of her life.
Bruce and Barbara lived in Battle Creek for 37 years. In retirement, they divided their time between living at their Coldwater Lake home for seven months and wintering in Bradenton, FL the other five months of the year. Barbara’s hobbies included traveling, gardening, lake activities, reading and her computer. She was one of the first to sign on-line when working at the Coldwater library, where she enjoyed meeting people and helping patrons. While living in Coldwater, she and her husband were active in Peace Lutheran Church in Fremont, Indiana. Barbara was a kind, loving person who was loved by so many. She was a strong pillar in her family who will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 64 years, Bruce; their children: Katherine (Rick) Mulder of Three Rivers, MaryAnn (Ed) Wunderlin of Vicksburg, James “Jim” (Cindie) Olds of Ceresco and Kenneth (Gracie) Olds of Ft. Myers, FL; her grandchildren Dan (Becky) Lux, Ashley (Jeremy) Kline, Matthew (Cami) Dake, Jessica (Andrew Lim) Olds and Amanda (James) Jordan; her step-grandchildren, Amy, April and Amanda; her six great-grandchildren; and her step-siblings, Jerry, Helen and Bonnie.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Charles W. Stanton.
