BETHEL TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A brief high speed chase late Wednesday morning that started in Branch County’s Bethel Township ended south of Lake Pleasant in Steuben County with the arrest of a man who was wanted on a Branch County fugitive warrant.
40-year-old Russell Toon of Angola, Indiana was taken into custody on 450 West south of State Road 120.
The pursuit involving a Branch County Sheriff’s deputy Scott Jaye and a black passenger car with no plates started in the area of Block and Nettleman Roads at about 11:15 a.m..
It headed south into Indiana with speeds reaching as high as almost 110 miles an hour.
It ended about five minutes later and Toon was taken to the Steuben County Jail. A Jail spokesman says Toon was booked for possession of marijuana and resisting law enforcement as well as on the Branch County warrant.
Toon’s initial hearing is scheduled to take place on Thursday.
Steuben County on line court records indicate Toon was free after posting 10 percent of a $2,500 bond last month after he was charged with theft, criminal trespassing, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.
