COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The upgrading of the City of Coldwater’s fiber optic network continues to move forward as the Coldwater Board of Public Utilities Board of Directors on Wednesday night approved a quote of over $369,000 from Aspen Wireless that would cover the Network Electronics work in the second phase of the project.
It was one of four quotes submitted.
Aspen Wireless was hired in 2019 by the CBPU to upgrade the system’s 1990’s technology.
When the improvements are finished next year, it’s hoped the speed and capacity of the system will put it in the top five percent of such networks in the nation.
City IT Director Patrick Pool said in his memo to the board that the equipment for the upcoming work was just recently released which categorizes it as sunrise technology and will expand its useful life.
He added it will also support more robust security options than they had originally planned and will better secure all users of the network.
