COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners brought forward to next Tuesday’s meeting a request from the Commission on Aging to reopen the Burnside Center for small activities that would follow strict COVID-19 safety protocols.
The Burnside Center has been closed since March 16 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
C.O.A. Executive Director Amy Duff said her board’s top priority was keeping seniors safe from COVID-19 but the pandemic and quarantine has taken a mental health toll on seniors.
The activities being proposed would have nearly a dozen COVID-19 protocols in place and Duff emphasized there are not a lot of activities they can do yet.
She said they are ready to implement the plan within the next couple of weeks. Duff added they have all of the personal protective equipment and cleaning supplies needed.
Formal action by the Commissioners on the request is scheduled to take place next Tuesday.
