COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A request from the Branch County Public Defender’s Office to add an investigator to its full time staff was brought forward to next week’s meeting by the County Board of Commissioners during their work session on Thursday.
Commissioner Terri Norris said the investigator has been working as a contract position which was causing a large draw on the public defender’s budget.
The yearly salary of $50,000 is already part of the budget submitted which has already been approved by the Michigan Indigent Defense Council.
Norris pointed out Branch County would not have to pay any additional money.
Chief Public Defender Matthew Glaser said in his written request that the full time investigator will assist in the workload and help provide better support for clients.
Formal action by Commissioners is scheduled to take place on Tuesday.
