BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinals had one of those nights on Friday night as they were beaten by the Harper Creek Beavers 28-7 in an Interstate 8 contest at Harper Creek.
The Beavers dominated the contest as they had a 297 to 149 edge in total yards.
Harper Creek is now 2-2 as they handed the Cardinals their first loss of the season. Coldwater’s record dropped to 3-1.
Harper Creek’s Julion McCray was unstoppable as he rushed for 215 yards and three touchdowns. McCray’s scored all of touchdowns in the first half from five, 65 and 35 yards out as Harper Creek built a 21-0 halftime lead.
Cam Torres scored from 11 yards out early in the fourth quarter for Coldwater’s only touchdown. Harper Creek closed out the scoring later in the quarter on an 11 yard touchdown pass from Ben Shafer to Bobby Webb.
Torres finished with 63 yards rushing for Coldwater. Ryan Omo led the Coldwater defense as he was in on 10 tackles.
It was a night of upsets in the Interstate 8, as Pennfield defeated Lumen Christi for the first time, 28-20, and Marshall knocked Parma Western out from the ranks of the unbeaten with a 41-27 road win. Hastings won at Jackson Northwest 38-21. The Cardinals visit the Saxons next Friday.
