BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – Bronson and Quincy split two very close high school cross country races Monday with the host Vikings winning the boys race 29-30 while the Orioles won the girls race 28-30.
Quincy took three of the top four spots in the boys race but Bronson runners finished fifth through 11th to help the Vikings pull out the victory.
Quincy’s Erik Butchart won the boys race in a time of 17:11.65. His teammate Rhett Reif (17:40.4) was second. Bronson’s Luis Ortiz (17:54.21) was third.
The girls race was almost identical to what happened in the boys race. Bronson had three of the top four runners but Quincy grabbed the win as the Orioles took fifth through ninth place.
Grace Welch of Bronson won the girls race in a time of 22:11.84. Quincy’s Avery Rufenacht was second with a time of 22:25.34.
Also in a Big 8 Conference meet, Concord swept Union City by scores of 15-50 in the boys race and 15-48 in the girls race. Union City’s Maddox Miller finished ninth in the boys race while Amelia June was sixth for the Chargers in the girls race.
