NORTH WEBSTER, IN (WTVB) – The growing season is coming to an end. Branch County is included in a Freeze Warning which has been issued by the National Weather Service for early Friday morning.
Widespread sub-freezing temperatures as low as 30 are expected, with locally colder spots briefly in the upper 20s between 2:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. in portions of northern Indiana and southwest Michigan.
Forecasters say frost and freeze conditions will kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.
You should take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. In addition, if you have outdoor water pipes, they should be wrapped, drained or allowed to drip slowly to prevent freezing and possible bursting.
Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.
