COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – After a scoreless first half, Harper Creek scored three unanswered goals in a 10 minute stretch of the second half for a 3-1 win over Coldwater in the Division 2 Michigan High School Athletic Association boys soccer District semifinal Tuesday night.
The Cardinals lone goal came from Hashed Abdullah with 15:10 to play in the game, after Harper Creek had taken a 3-0 lead. Coldwater put high pressure on the Beavers in the final 10 minutes of the game, but could not come up with another goal. The Cardinals had beaten Harper Creek 6-2 in Interstate 8 Conference play October 10.
Michael Orozco-Aburto made six saves in goal.
With the loss, Coldwater ends it season at 4-6 overall. The team spent several weeks in quarantine during the middle of the season, and had several tournaments and other games cancelled throughout the year, playing only about half of its normal schedule.
Harper Creek advances to play host Marshall Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in the District final, after the Redhawks beat Battle Creek Central 6-3 in the other semifinal last night.
Bronson was forced to withdraw from the Division Four District at Hillsdale Academy yesterday, giving the host school a 1-0 forfeit win and a spot in the District final against Jackson Lumen Christi Friday.
