UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – Students in the Union City Community School district are getting an unexpected three day weekend.
Superintendent Ronna Steel said in a robo call to parents and in a posting on the district’s Facebook page that district officials have decided to cancel school for Friday as they currently have a critical shortage of substitutes.
Steel went on to say that due to the lack of substitutes, they are unable to safely provide enough coverage for buildings while maintaining their current safety protocol requirements.
She added they look forward to seeing everyone back in the district on Monday.
Meanwhile, Tekonsha Schools will be closed for a second straight day on Friday for COVID-19 cleaning. District officials have announced that all activities are cancelled. The shutdown comes after there was a reported positive case of COVID-19 in the school.
