BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Under a new Michigan High School Athletic Association cross country format that has been instituted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, pre-regional meets are being held this weekend.
Unlike in past years, the MHSAA Lower Peninsula Boys and Girls Cross Country Tournaments will begin this year with an additional Pre-Regional round, which will divide the traditional Regional tournaments into smaller groups in order to limit field sizes per race site.
The four top-placing teams and seven top individuals not on those teams which qualified in the top four will move onto the Regional round.
Coldwater will be competing on Saturday at the Division 2 Pre-Regional at Sturgis Middle School.
Bronson and Quincy will compete in Division 3 Pre-Regional meets on Saturday. The Vikings will be at Centreville while Quincy will be at Hudson.
The Union City squads competed in their Division 3 Pre-Regional on Thursday at Springport. The Chargers were seventh in the boys standings while there were not enough runners for Union City for a team score in the girls race. Two Chargers managed to advance to the regionals as Maddox Miller (20:31.84) was 23rd in the boys race while Amelia June (25:43.93) was 24th in the girls meet.
