LANSING, MI (WTVB) – The news concerning COVID-19 in Michigan continues to go from bad to worse as the grim statistics continue to go in wrong direction and officials fear a long and cruel winter of more people getting infected with the virus.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reported a one day record for new COVID-19 cases on Saturday. They say there are 3,338 new cases in Michigan with 96 percent of the test results being reported Saturday originating from specimens that were collected over the last five days.
There have been 158,026 cases so far in Michigan. In addition, 35 more deaths were reported on Saturday which brought the state death toll up to 7,182.
Meanwhile, the Calhoun County Public Health Department reported five more COVID-19 related deaths on Friday which brought the county’s death toll up to 61. Calhoun County has had 13 deaths since October 15 after no deaths were reported between October 5 and 15. Over 300 new cases have been reported in the last week bringing the total number of Calhoun County cases up to 2,251. Hospitalizations have also skyrocketed in recent weeks. After being in single digits since the pandemic began, there are now 26 COVID-19 patients in a Calhoun County medical care facility.
Statistics from the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency from Friday show there have been 735 cases with 10 deaths in Branch County, 440 cases with 26 deaths in Hillsdale County and 990 cases with 15 deaths in St. Joseph County.
