BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Both of the Bronson cross country squads advanced to next week’s regional round on Saturday at the M.H.S.A.A. Division Three pre-regional meet at Centreville.
Bronson edged Parchment by one point, 30-31, to win the boys meet. Parchment took the top two spots but Bronson had five runners finish in third through tenth place. Luis Ortiz (18:10.01) finished third for Bronson followed by Ashton Wells in fourth, Reagan Mayer in sixth, Aden Hathaway in seventh and Ben Thomas Grate in tenth.
Bronson finished third in the girls meet as only 13 points separated the top four teams. Centreville finished first with 63 points followed by Lawton with 66 and Bronson with 72. Grace Welch (22:04.18) was the top finisher for Bronson as she was seventh while Sidney Swick was eighth.
The Quincy boys missed advancing to the regional round by two points at the Division Three pre-regional hosted by Hudson. They finished fifth with 102 points. Jackson Lumen Christi was fourth with 100 points and got the final transfer spot to the regional meet. Rhett Reif (16:39.83) will be heading to the regionals are a individual as he was third. Quincy’s Eric Butchart was 10th while Jacob Reif was 11th. Both of the Reifs and Butchart will compete at regionals as individuals.
The Quincy girls were seventh in the team standings. Avery Rufenacht (22:06.34) was the top finisher as she was 11th. She will compete in the regionals as a individual.
