EAST LANSING, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinals and the Bronson Vikings have earned home field advantage for the opening round of the M.H.S.A.A. football playoffs next weekend.
With the COVID-19 pandemic limiting the regular season for football in Michigan to six games, everybody got into the 2020 state tournament. Pairings in the eight team districts were determined by a point system that was basically based on records and strength of schedule.
Coldwater will host long time rival Sturgis in a Division Three game on Friday night at 7:00 p.m.. The Cardinals are 4-2 while the Trojans are 3-3. The two schools have not faced each other in football since 2013 after Coldwater became a member of the Interstate 8 Conference.
In Division Six, Quincy will travel to Adrian Madison on Friday night at 7:00 p.m.. The Orioles are 2-4 while Madison is 5-1.
In Division Seven, the 3-2 Bronson Vikings will host Delton Kellogg on Friday night. The Vikings will take a three game winning streak into the game which is their longest winning streak since 2012.
Also in Division Seven, the Union City Chargers play at Homer on Friday night at 7:00 p.m.. The Chargers are 2-4 while the Trojans are 4-2. It will be a rematch of a week #2 game which saw Homer defeat Union City 33-12.
In the Division Two playoffs for Eight Person Football, Tekonsha will host Waldron on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.. Both teams are 4-2.
