COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Downtown Development Authority Board voted on Wednesday to make a $5,000 contribution towards the cost that Intersect Studio of Kalamazoo will be charging to help develop plans for the improvement of the Chicago Street corridor between Clay and Sprague Streets.
Intersect will be charging a total of $19,800. Economic Development Assistant Audrey Tappenden told the D.D.A. Board the goal is to help develop a vision for the enhancement of this portion of Chicago in order to improve its walkability and beauty over time.
A subcommittee of three D.D.A. members will be involved in the planning with Intertect.
Architect Bill LaDitka said in a letter to the city the process will require between eight to ten weeks of work.
He said the hope is to adjust this corridor in several ways including lane reconfiguration, traffic calming, access management, having a pedestrian access network, visual improvements, place experience enhancement and community brand.
LaDitka added they understand the urgent need of identifying elements that will help direct MDOT’s planned repaving project in 2021.
