ANGOLA, IN (WTVB) – A deputy with the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department was honored on Friday for her efforts in saving the life of a suicidal woman in the Fremont, Indiana area on September 12.
Deputy Alexis Meyers was presented with her Live Saving Award by Sheriff Rodney Robinson for her swift and decisive actions.
Robinson says the woman whose life was saved by Meyers had taken an unknown amount of prescription medication and had possibly overdosed. After other deputies arrived, the woman collapsed and her breathing became shallow.
Additional assistance was requested. When Meyers arrived with other rescue crews, she administered a dose of NARCAN to the woman which Robinson says saved the woman’s life.
Robinson says the woman quickly returned to consciousness to the point of being combative with everyone on the scene.
Meyers is a 2009 Angola High School graduate who attended Trine University’s Criminal Justice Program and is a U.S. Army veteran.
She joined the Sheriff’s Department in September of 2019.
