COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Community School district received notification from the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency Monday that they are requiring the district to go to 100% Virtual Instruction until Monday, November 16th.
The rubrics used to make this determination have put the district in the virtual category due to the spread that has occurred within their Transportation Department.
Superintendent Terry Ann Whelan is also asking for students to limit community contact over the next two weeks.
This closure will include the Branch Area Careers Center programs and special education programs located in the Coldwater district. In addition, their Kinder Learning Academy preschool program as well as Kids Club Daycare at the Lincoln Learning Center will be closed.
Whelan continues that “as a district, this is something that we have spent a lot of time planning for as we knew that this pandemic would probably require us to do this at some point during the year. What we didn’t plan for is that it would happen so soon. We are grateful that our Chromebooks came in last week so that we can continue to educate our students virtually. We know that this is an additional burden on our families, and we wish we could still be face-to-face. However, we will continue to work through the challenges and provide the best instructional opportunities possible to all of our students. Please remind your student that this time is not vacation time, but time for engaging in virtual instruction.”
Each building will communicate specific instructional information to families and students for virtual learning through November 16th.
