COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – What had been feared with Monday’s announcement that Coldwater Community Schools would have to go to virtual learning for two weeks became a reality on Wednesday morning when it was announced the Coldwater volleyball team would be forfeiting their Division One district semifinal match against Mason that was scheduled for Wednesday.
The Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency informed the school district on Monday that they had to go to a virtual learning model for the next 14 days due to a number of COVID-19 cases in the transportation department.
All athletic events and practices had to be paused until extra measures were taken to help ensure that Coldwater student-athletes and their opponents were safe.
The forfeit ended the girls volleyball season.
In addition, the Coldwater girls swim meets with Mattawan on Thursday night as well as the Coldwater Invitational on Saturday have both been cancelled.
The football team along with three members of the cross country teams are all scheduled to see action this week. No official announcement has been made yet on the status of their events.
The cross country members are scheduled to compete Friday at the MHSAA State Finals at Michigan International Speedway.
Athletic Director Todd Farmer said in a letter to parents earlier this week that the health and safety of all students will always be placed at the forefront of their decisions.
