COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Canvassers began the process of certifying ballots from the General Election Thursday morning.
They are scheduled to continue their work on Friday and next Tuesday.
Just over 57-and-half percent of registered voters in Branch County cast a ballot on Tuesday. That translates into 20,673 ballots being cast from among 35,943 registered voters.
Due to COVID-19, almost one out of every four registered voter in Branch County requested an absentee ballot for Tuesday’s election.
There were long lines Tuesday at Branch County voting locations thanks to the presidential election and a hotly contested U.S. Senate race.
Voters also picked candidates in city and township races but the county races were uncontested due to a lack of Democratic candidates.
