COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Those who served our country in the military will still be honored on Veterans Day this Wednesday but the COVID-19 pandemic has forced some changes to local ceremonies.
There will be a Veteran’s Day ceremony at the Coldwater American Legion Post #52 which is located at 84 West Chicago on Wednesday morning starting at 11:00 a.m.. That’s the exact time in 1918 when the armistice took effect, which ended the fighting in World War One.
There will be brief comments from Branch County District Court Judge David Coyle along with a 21 game salute by the Legion’s Drill Team. Those who plan to attend are asked to wear mask and observe COVID-19 social distancing protocols.
The Burnside Center in Coldwater will be celebrating Veterans Day differently. They are unable to hold their annual Veterans Day event to honor Branch County veterans due to COVID-19. Instead, the Burnside Center has created a tribute video highlighting members of their “Wall of Heroes” which is usually displayed in the Center this time each year.
Burnside Executive Director Amy Duff says, “We knew we wanted to continue our tradition of celebrating veterans. We’re excited to bring it online for the entire community to watch and honor.” The video will go live on Veterans Day, Wednesday, November 11.
