UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – The Union City Village Council tentatively approved a proposal from Granger Refuse Monday night after they heard multiple proposals about providing the village with a single hauler waste service that would include recycling.
Granger’s proposal would have customers paying about $13.80 per month for weekly garbage and bi weekly recycling.
The tentative approval is pending a public hearing during the December 14 Village Council meeting.
Village Manager Chris Mathis says a single hauler service would reduce the garbage truck traffic on Village roads, bring recycling to the Union City area, reduce cost to residents who can collectively bargain with one company and ensure each resident has a service. Costs would be passed along on the monthly utility bill.
Mathis says this would be for Village residents only and for those residents that pay the September Village tax bill.
A letter will be sent to all residents that would fall under the service area with details of the December meeting which will be held via Zoom.
