COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The changing of the guard on the Branch County Board of Commissioners is starting this week.
Ted Gordon will officially end 50 years of service to Branch County on Saturday. The former Branch County Sheriff had to step down from the Board of Commissioner before his term ends on December 31 after he purchased a home in St. Joseph County.
He chaired his final Branch County Board of Commissioners meeting on Tuesday which featured surprise appearances by State Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey and outgoing State Representative Eric Leutheuser.
They thanked both Gordon and outgoing Commissioner Terri Norris for their service.
Jon Houtz will take over the District Four seat which covers the First, Second and Third Wards in the City of Coldwater on January 1, 2021. He is expected to serve out the last six weeks of Gordon’s term.
Norris has served two terms as the First District Commissioner. Tim Stoll will take her place on the board on January 1.
In other business, the Commissioners formally approved the installation of a air treatment system in some county buildings which is designed to kill the COVID-19 virus while it’s airborne. County Complex Manger Scotts Walls has obtained two bids and will be getting more. Administrator Bud Norman is seeking grant money. The cost would be about $48,000.
