JACKSON, MI (WTVB) – Consumers Energy says decreased winds will aid restoration work on Monday as crews work around the clock to get the power back on. Over 85,000 customers lost power since Sunday morning during a prolonged wind storm that had gusts exceeding 50 miles an hour. About 28,000 customers were still without power Monday morning.
Consumers Energy expects restoration work will continue through late Tuesday for most of the affected customers.
As of 5:30 p.m. Sunday, the outages included over 700 customers in Branch County. Most of the outages were east of Fremont Road, between U.S. 12 and East Central Road.
The number of outages as of 5:30 a.m. was down to 138 in Branch County. Almost 2,200 customers were out in Calhoun County, there were 204 outages in Hillsdale County and 12 outages in St. Joseph County.
The strongest wind gust recorded at the Branch County Memorial Airport on Sunday was 49 miles an hour at 3:15 p.m..
