COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – One of two Adrian residents charged with allegedly trying to smuggle drugs into the Lakeland Correctional Facility in Coldwater entered into a plea agreement on Monday in Branch County Circuit Court.
32-year-old Amber Duren entered a guilty plea to attempting to furnish contraband to prisoners.
Three other counts would be dropped in exchange for the plea. She is scheduled to be sentenced on January 4.
Another suspect, 20-year-old James Bellamy of Adrian is facing four charges.
Duren’s 15-year-old daughter was also arrested. The youngster’s case was handled by Family Court.
The Department of Corrections uncovered a plot to smuggle drugs into the prison on September 19.
They alerted the Michigan State Police in Marshall. Police from several agencies were involved in the investigation.
State Police say the investigation also revealed the involvement of several prisoners serving time at Lakeland.
