HILLSDALE, MI (WTVB) – A Hillsdale County native who had just purchased radio stations in Jackson and Hillsdale in recent months has passed away in a Ohio boating accident.
43-year-old Jamie McKibbin of Parma was with his close friend 63-year-old James “Bud” Miller of Rives Junction on a hunting trip at Clendening Lake near Tippecanoe, Ohio when their boat overturned on Sunday.
They were reported missing late Sunday night. Their bodies were found near the shoreline not far from the Clendening Lake Marina on Monday afternoon. Authorities say McKibben and Miller drowned.
The boat has not been found yet. McKibbin was the owner and operator of McKibbin Media Group. He bought WKHM AM/FM and WIBM in Jackson last December where he was a D.J. and morning show host at one time. He then purchased WCSR AM/FM in Hillsdale back in February.
He had recently joined the Board of Directors with the Michigan Association of Broadcasters.
McKibben worked in the news department in 1997 at WTVB Radio before moving onto Jackson.
