GIRARD TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A inspection late last week by Great Lakes Underwater Services revealed enough problems with the Marshall Road bridge over Hog Creek to force a lowering of weight limits for trucks and other large vehicles.
The Branch County Road Commission has posted signs and message boards which say the weight limits on the bridge north of Girard have been lowered from 50 tons to 14 tons.
Road Commission Manager Jay Miller says Hog Creek’s low water level revealed problems with the bridge’s steel pilings.
The bridge will stay open but with reduced weight limits. It was built in 1968 and is scheduled to be replaced in 2022.
Message boards were put in on I-69 at Jonesville Road (16 mile marker) and at the Tekonsha exit (23 mile marker) which tell truckers to stay on the interstate.
